Patron Information
Patron Registration
Registration is free to the residents of the Village and the Town of Canisteo, as well as residents of the Canisteo-Greenwood School District. Service will not be denied because of religious, racial, social, economic or political status. The use of the library or its services may be denied for due cause. Such cause may be failure to return books or pay penalties, destruction of property or inappropriate behavior.
A person 18 years of age or older with valid identification will receive a library card immediately. A child over 5 or in kindergarten may receive a card immediately if accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Books may be borrowed at the time a card is issued.
Registration is valid for up to three years after which each patron must reregister to keep individual data up to date.
Circulation
Most library materials circulate for 4 weeks and may be renewed in person or by phone unless on reserve for another patron. Adult patrons may borrow an unlimited number of books with the exception of new books for which there is a limit of two books. Patrons under 18 are limited to 6 books per visit if not accompanied by a parent or caregiver. All DVDs are only circulated for 1 week.
Reference materials may not be checked out.
Overdues
Books and books on tape will not have overdue charges. Patrons will be notified of overdues by phone or mail when necessary. Fines will only be to replace lost or damaged materials. Patrons with fines of $5.00 or more will not be allowed to check out any more items until materials are returned and fines paid. Charges for lost or damaged materials will be assessed at current replacement value.
Reserves
Patrons may reserve any materials owned by the library or in the STLS system by placing a hold on the item either through the librarian or through the STARCAT catalogue online.
